Description
The Maroon Bells twin-peak formation reflects in Maroon Lake, just outside Aspen in Colorado's Rocky Mountains. This view and others like it are among the most famous scenes in Colorado and reputed to be the "most-photographed spot in Colorado." The "bells," as passing pioneers named them, are composed of somewhat unstable metamorphic sedimentary mudstone (giving them their maroon appearance in certain light) that hardened into rock over millions of years.
